One of the annual events Moore County looks forward to each summer is the flood of young golfers from around the world, and their families, who come here to play in the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship and World Teen Championship.  In the World Teen Championship, golfers aged 13-18 will be playing various courses in the Pinehurst area July 22-24, followed by kids aged 5-12 playing in the World Championship July 29-31.  It is the world’s largest and most prestigious event for junior golfers.

2021 marks the 16th year that the “Home of American Golf” has hosted these championships which is a source of tremendous pride for Moore County each year.  This year, Partners in Progress, Moore County’s economic development organization, was invited to prepare a letter for the local Sandcastle magazine welcoming everyone to these events.  But this letter is really a warm and sincere welcome not just to U.S. Kids Golf but to all visitors and newcomers who come here throughout the year!

 U.S. Kids Golf

I would like to welcome U.S. Kids Golf participants, families, & friends to the Home of American Golf!  We’re so glad you’re here and we’re proud to host the 2021 U.S. Kids Golf World Championship and World Teen Championship!

You may know that Moore County is home to more than 30 premier courses within a 20-mile radius. Unmistakably, Pinehurst No. 2 is our most famous course. The U.S. Open Championship is slated to return to No. 2 in 2024, but did you know Pinehurst No. 2 will be the first anchor site for U.S. Open Championships? As an anchor site, Pinehurst No. 2 will host the U.S. Open Championship again in 2029, 2035, 2041, and 2047. The U.S. Women’s Open Championship also returns to Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines in 2022, making Pine Needles the only course that will have ever hosted the U.S. Women’s Open Championship four times. I’m excited to share that the USGA recently announced the establishment of a second headquarters in Pinehurst, or Golf House Pinehurst, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have the USGA put down roots in Moore County!

Clearly, Moore County lives and loves golf, but we are so much more than just golf.  We’re a great place to live, work, and play!!

We hope that while you’re here, you will Stress Less & Live Moore!  Take a closer look at all the other great things Moore County has to offer besides golf. You’ll see we have several communities with their own unique small-town charm. You’ll see we have an impressive variety of excellent dining, shopping, recreational & cultural offerings that rival those found in more metropolitan areas. While here, I encourage you to try one of our unique cafes or restaurants featuring locally grown ingredients; shop in our one-of-a-kind boutique shops; check out our family friendly parks & trail systems; or take a historic tour and learn about our rich history. We’re confident you’ll find Southern hospitality and welcoming residents too.

Visitors often first experience Moore County when they come here to play golf. With the great quality of life we offer, it’s no surprise that many later return to live here. Not only do we have world-class golf, but we have a nationally ranked healthcare system, excellent educational institutions, and low taxes. Our mix of small-town living with big-city amenities really is the best of both worlds!! It’s no wonder talented people are moving here; entrepreneurs are starting businesses here; families are growing up here; and seniors are retiring here.

We wish all the players the best of luck and we hope players, families, and friends have an opportunity to explore all Moore County has to offer. Who knows, maybe you’ll come back to stay for good one day!
