With the holiday season already underway, Moore County has countless opportunities for both residents and visitors to partake in this festive time of year.
For music lovers, the Moore County Choral Society will be hosting its Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 14th at 7:00 PM. The concert will be held at Sandhills Community College in Owens Auditorium. The group, which is celebrating its 40th season, will be accompanied by Moore Brass. With a chorus of over one hundred members and performances that will include all of the seasonal favorites, the night will be sure to put you in the holiday mood. In Aberdeen, the City Council is also organizing a Christmas Carol Concert for Saturday, December 20th at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. The concert will be held at the beautiful Duthie Park Winter Gardens.
Events like the annual Christmas Open House at the Shaw House in Southern Pines allow visitors to experience the rich history of the area along with some holiday spirit. Three house-museums, all built during the 1700’s and 1800’s, will be open for tours and will provide an inside look at how residents in the area lived during this time. Those who attend will get to enjoy everything from traditional decorations to homemade treats and apple cider. The Gift Shoppe also has unique items that would make perfect presents for loved ones! The Open House will be held from December 12th-14th at 1:00-4:00 PM, and the event is free of charge. On December 13th, the House in the Horseshoe State Historic Site in Sanford will also be holding its annual Colonial Christmas Event, which will feature re-enactments, tradecraft demonstrations, and traditional music.
The community will also host a number of holiday events perfect for families, including multiple Christmas parades. On December 13th at 1:00PM, the Moore County Driving Club will put on a Christmas Horse Carriage Parade on Broad Street in Southern Pines, featuring a fleet of beautifully decorated horses and carriages. The same day, the town of Aberdeen will hold its Annual Christmas Parade at 11:00AM on Main Street; rumor has it that Santa himself will be participating in the event! Children and parents alike will appreciate these festive parades. For more family fun, families can head to the Southern Pines Public Library from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, where the library will be hosting its Snowflake Craft Event. The entire family will be able to create wonderful winter snowflakes using materials provided by the library.
And, for those with a sweet tooth, the Gingerbread House Live Auction & Competition Fundraiser in Southern Pines is an event that shouldn’t be missed. Held on December 14th, the event will feature incredible gingerbread houses that look too good to eat. The proceeds from the auction of these tasty creations will support Surviving on Stamps, an organization that teaches low-income families to cook healthy meals on a budget. The event will feature live Christmas music and delicious holiday desserts and beverages, all while supporting a wonderful cause.
So whether you’re from the area, here visiting loved ones, or simply find yourself passing through, make sure to stop by some of Moore County’s holiday events. The community is full of holiday spirit, and we can’t wait to celebrate this season with you!
