Southern Season, a gourmet foods retailer with stores in Chapel Hill and Raleigh, plans to open a smaller version of its store in Southern Pines this fall.
Southern Season will be bringing its smaller store "A Taste of Southern Season" to Southern Pines as part of the company's overall expansion in the South. Company officials are hoping to be open by October. Although the specific location for the store has not been revealed publically yet, word is that it will be on North Broad Street.
The Southern Pines location will be modeled off of the original Taste store that opened a year ago in Cameron Village in Raleigh.
Jill Lucas, communications manager for Southern Season, says the company’s Taste stores range from 2,000 to 7,000 square feet. Taste stores feature retail space for a range of gourmet food items and merchandise. Some of the stores also carry a small selection of prepared food items, though they are not prepared on-site. It’s still too early to know which specific products the Southern Pines store will carry, Lucas said, but the company tries to stock a number of locally produced items and products specific to the region.
Southern Season just opened a Taste store in Charleston, SC last week, and plans are to open similar stores in Asheville and Wilmington this year.
