On Tuesday, November 17th from 10AM until 2PM, Moore County will hold its 7th annual Veterans Job Fair and Stand Down event. A stand down is an event that provides resources and services to homeless veterans. Moore County’s event will also feature various employers with potential opportunities for veterans; Debbie’s Staffing, FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Pinehurst Resort, and Lowes Home Improvement are among those who will be in attendance, as will a number of community service providers. Veterans will have the opportunity to receive free haircuts and to attend a health care clinic.

Active duty military members, veterans, and their families are an incredibly important part of Moore County, which is located within easy driving distance of the nation’s largest army base. The community offers a number of resources and an incredible network of support for its veterans and their families. For example, Moore County’s Veterans Services office assists veterans with tasks ranging from enrollment in the VA Medical System to filing for vocational rehabilitation, while the Sandhills Military Wives Club provides a support group for wives of current or retired military members.

Moore County also actively promotes the hiring of veterans, such as the efforts led by the Moore County Chamber of Commerce and the Sandhills Chapter of the Military Officers. The groups have organized a job initiative in the past to help veterans apply their military skills to employment upon returning home. Both FirstHealth and Pinehurst Resort, who will be in attendance at this year’s Job Fair, have actively recruited veterans to work for them in the past. FirstHealth has noted how veterans have a certain skillset that makes them very qualified candidates for some of FirstHealth’s positions.

This year’s Job Fair and Stand Down event is yet another example of the many ways that Moore County works to support its military community. The event is free for veterans, who should bring their DD-214 or VA Medical ID Card if possible. It will be held at the National Guard Armory, which is located at 500 W. Morganton Road in Southern Pines, NC.
